I am a licensed clinical psychologist and experienced psychotherapist providing psychological and behavioral treatments for a wide range of clinical problems and issues, with diverse clinical populations, individuals and groups. I have lived and worked in Dallas-Fort Worth since coming to the area for graduate study at the University of North Texas, where I received the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Counseling Psychology in 1994.
I also hold bachelor’s degrees in Journalism and Psychology from the University of Houston, a master’s degree in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University, and was trained in the Clinical Psychology Consortium Internship Program at Southwestern Medical School, University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas, and Terrell State Hospital. In my career I have had the privilege of collaborating with many medical and mental health treatment providers on patient care, and these collegial relationships have helped me provide the best possible continuum and quality of care for my clients.
Professionally, I have held clinical leadership and management roles in corporate as well as outpatient and inpatient treatment facilities, including directorial oversight of a clinical neuroscience research group to evaluate the safety and efficacy of investigative psychotropic medications. As a psychotherapist, I’m skilled in motivational interviewing (person-centered), cognitive-behavioral, existential-humanistic, and many other therapeutic approaches with proven results. But I believe the quality of the therapist-client relationship is the essence of what makes good therapy effective, and I take great care to cultivate and nurture that relationship.
I embrace a positive, holistic psychology and value inclusivity and diversity. I am LGBTQ-affirmative, culturally sensitive, and all ethnicities and religious world views are welcome. I genuinely care about my clients and treat them with warmth, compassion, and nonjudgmental acceptance. I feel privileged knowing that the clients I am seeing have entrusted me with their care. And I respect and admire their efforts to achieve positive growth and change.
Outside the office, my interests span the natural sciences, humanities, sports, and the performing arts. I am a passionate collector of classical music and avid theater-goer, and I support the major opera, theater and musician groups of North Texas. I am a fine art aficionado, sports fan (go Mavs!), and I enjoy travel both international and domestic, visiting the world’s great museums and photographing churches and cathedrals in the U.S. and Europe. I am passionate about animals and enthusiastically support animal rescue, pet adoption, and wildlife conservation groups. I am a lover of cats in particular, especially my beloved feline companion, Henrietta. I and my beloved wife, Barbara, now in Heaven, have a son, Alex, of whom I am so proud. My hobbies include photography and collecting luxury fountain pens.
